{"id":129,"date":"2020-05-16T15:26:23","date_gmt":"2020-05-16T12:26:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qatarbirds.org\/?page_id=129"},"modified":"2020-05-16T15:26:23","modified_gmt":"2020-05-16T12:26:23","slug":"qbrc-decisions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/qatarold.cs-aspirations.com\/?page_id=129","title":{"rendered":"QBRC Decisions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">This page includes details of all sightings ratified by the Qatar Birds Records Committee (QBRC). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The committee assesses which species &#8211; and which observations &#8211; are eligible to be admitted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/qatarbirds.org\/qatar-bird-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Qatar <\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/qatarbirds.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/qatar_checklist_25-05-20-v1_0-1-1.xlsx\" target=\"_blank\">List<\/a>, thereby ensuring a validated, up-to-date record of the country&#8217;s wild birds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The Qatar Bird Records Committee is a voluntary committee established in 1996. Membership is currently Shaikh Mohammed Bin Ahmed AL-Thani,Sameh Odeh,  Bassel Abi Jummaa, Dr. Simon Tull, Mr. Neil Morris, Eitan Cohen, and Fahad Al-Shammari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">QBRC assesses claims bi-annually. When applicable, QBRC seeks independent expertise to help in their assessment. All claimants are informed of the committee&#8217;s decisions directly. Successful claims are published on this website and in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osme.org\/sandgrouse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sandgrouse<\/a>, the journal of the Ornithological Society of the Middle East (OSME).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Records of sightings can be submitted to QBRC <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/qatarbirds.org\/submit-sightings\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Records for H2,  2022<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The following records were ratified by QBRC for the period 1 June 2022 to 31 December 2022. The main highlight for the period was a first record of a <strong>White\u2019s Thrush&nbsp;<\/strong><em>Zoothera aurea<\/em>. This was only the second record for the Arabian peninsula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Greater White-fronted Goose<\/strong>&nbsp;<em>Anser albifrons.<\/em>&nbsp;Single first winter bird, Irkayya Lagoons, 15-21 December 2022 (E Cohen, R Cohen). 14th&nbsp;record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Great Spotted Cuckoo&nbsp;<\/strong><em>Clamator glandarius.&nbsp;<\/em>One juvenile Irkayya Farm, 8 August 2022 (A Dogliero). The main highlight was the first record of a <strong>Rufous Turtle Dove<\/strong> <em>Streptopelia (orientalis) meena<\/em>, the second record of a <strong>Eurasian Griffon Vulture<\/strong> <em>Gyps fulvus<\/em>, and the first and second records of <strong>Long-billed Pipit<\/strong> <em>Anthus similis<\/em>, and the first record of <strong>Oriental Skylark<\/strong> <em>Alauda gulgula<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Great Spotted Cuckoo<\/strong> <em>Clamator glandarius<\/em>. Highlights included first records of Horned Lark <em>Eremophila alpestris<\/em>, and \u2018White-headed Wagtail\u2019 <em>Motacilla (flava) leucocephala<\/em> as well as a historic record of Dusky Thrush <em>Turdus eunomus<\/em> from 2015. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>White-fronted Goose <em>Anser albifrons<\/em>. 14 birds off Umm Bab, 14 November 2020 (anon). 12th record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Red-crested Pochard <em>Netta rufina<\/em>.
